There is something extra special about maternity sessions when older siblings are involved. The excitement, the chaos, the curiosity about the new baby, and all of the sweet in-between moments that unfold naturally. This recent maternity session at the Raleigh Rose Garden was the perfect example of why I love photographing growing families.
As a Raleigh maternity photographer, one of my goals is always to create photos that feel genuine to your family. Not perfectly posed. Not overly stiff. Just real moments that you’ll want to remember years from now.
The Raleigh Rose Garden is one of the most beautiful locations for maternity and family photography in Raleigh. Between the colorful blooms, winding garden paths, and soft evening light, it offers a stunning backdrop while still leaving plenty of room for little ones to explore.
For this session, the roses were absolutely showing off. The yellow blooms created the sweetest setting for individual portraits of the boys, family photos, and of course, plenty of images celebrating this mama and the newest little one on the way.
It’s easy to see why the Raleigh Rose Garden remains one of the most popular locations for maternity photos in Raleigh. The gardens provide beautiful color throughout much of the year and photograph beautifully during golden hour.
One of my favorite things about this session was getting to watch these brothers interact together.
The youngest happily explored the garden paths and roses, while his older brothers kept everyone laughing from start to finish. Rather than forcing perfect smiles, we leaned into the energy they naturally brought.
Some of my favorite images from the evening weren’t the ones where everyone was looking at the camera. They were the moments when the boys piled onto mom for hugs, when dad lifted one of them high into the air, and when everyone forgot they were being photographed and simply enjoyed being together.
Those are the moments that tell the story.

When families think about maternity photos, they often picture portraits focused entirely on the baby bump. While those images are important, I love incorporating the entire family into the experience.
This season of life isn’t just about welcoming a new baby. It’s about the family becoming something new together.
Including siblings in maternity photos helps preserve memories of who they were before everything changed. The excitement, anticipation, and connection are all part of the story.
As a family and maternity photographer in Raleigh, these are often the photographs that become family favorites years later.
One of the sweetest parts of this session was watching how naturally the boys gravitated toward mom’s growing belly.
Between hugs, kisses, and constant curiosity, it was obvious this baby is already so loved.
There is something incredibly meaningful about documenting these final weeks before a family welcomes a new little one. Life is busy, schedules are full, and days seem to fly by. Taking an hour to slow down and capture this season creates memories that become even more valuable once baby arrives.

If you’re expecting and looking for maternity photos in Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, or the surrounding Triangle area, I’d love to help you document this season.

Because these moments pass quickly, but the photographs help you hold onto them forever.
