There is something so special about photographing families in the season right before everything changes.
This spring, I met Abbott and André at Duke Gardens in Durham, North Carolina for their maternity session as they prepared to welcome their baby boy. We spent the evening wandering through the gardens, stopping wherever the light was beautiful and letting the session unfold naturally. One of my favorite parts of maternity photography is getting the chance to slow down and hear a family’s story, and these two were such a joy to spend time with.
From the moment we started walking through the gardens, it was obvious how excited they are to become parents. Their session was filled with laughter, quiet moments together, and so much anticipation for the little boy they were about to meet.
One thing I hear often from expecting parents is that they feel nervous about being photographed.
The truth is that maternity sessions with me are designed to feel relaxed and easy. There is no pressure to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. Instead, I guide you through simple prompts and natural interactions that allow genuine moments to happen.
Abbott and André spent much of the session simply talking, laughing, and enjoying being together. Those authentic moments are always my favorites because they tell the story of this season exactly as it is.
Rather than focusing on perfectly posed images, I love creating photographs that reflect the excitement, connection, and anticipation that come with preparing for a new baby.

Pregnancy can feel both incredibly long and unbelievably fast at the same time.
One day you’re announcing the news, and before you know it you’re counting down the final weeks until your baby arrives.
That is why maternity photography is so meaningful. These photos preserve a chapter that quickly becomes a memory. The anticipation, the excitement, the quiet moments spent imagining what life will look like with your little one in your arms.
Abbott and André were soaking in every moment of this season, and it was such an honor to document it for them before they welcome their baby.
One of my favorite things about being a newborn and family photographer is getting to document multiple chapters for growing families.
After spending the evening together at Duke Gardens, I was already looking forward to seeing these two again for their in-home newborn session. There is something incredibly special about capturing both the anticipation before baby arrives and the joy of finally bringing your little one home.
I cannot wait to document this next chapter for their family!
If you’re expecting and looking for a maternity photographer in Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, or the surrounding Triangle area, I would love to help you document this season.
